Bridge of Allan nine hole course was designed by Old Tom Morris when the Club was established in 1895. The course is a par 33 measuring 2560 yards that offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside such as the Stirling Castle, Wallace monument, Perthshire Hills, Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps.
The 1st hole (aptly named the Dyke) is by far Bridge of Allan’s signature hole. This par 3, measuring 223 yards from the Gents medal tee (requires an uphill drive over a six foot high dyke (stone wall) 175 yards from the tee on to an elevated green beyond. This is the most difficult opening par 3 anywhere (save maybe Winterfield!). A good drive by Craig did not even reach the green however a good up and down saved par. Stu managed a 5 and it turned out to be the start of a four hole run of 5’s before a strong finish saw Stu card a couple of 4’s and just missed a two at the 9th to card 42. Craig followed up with a poor bogey at the third over hitting his approach to the green and then bogeying the par 3 5th down the hill. The 6th and 7th at Bridge of Allan were very good holes and Craig managed to drive the green at the 7th for a two putt birdie and two pars to finish saw a score of 34 (+1).
This course was lovely, in great condition and well set out (very hilly) however the views were awesome. A course you must visit and it was disappointing to hear that the clubhouse had been on fire and was being refurbished so we wish you well in getting the clubhouse back up and running.
