   Carnwath Golf Course
Carnwath Carnwath

Carnwath Golf Club was founded in 1907 on a piece of land called Gallow Hill, situated to the west of the village of Carnwath.  The course was extended to 18 holes in May 1922.

The club crest bears a motif of Carnwath Motte, a defensive ditch built in the 12th century, still a visible feature of the course, located behind the first green.

Its cold frosty morning and we have just been informed by Lanark that their course is closed due to frost so we end up at Carnwath a lovely course situated in South Lanarkshire.  We are greeted by Linda the Club Secretary who met Craig when Audit Scotland had their golf outing. (Although did not recognize him without the pink golf suit on!)  Linda very kindly let us on for free as a donation to the charity.  Linda a big thank you from us both.

We had the course to ourselves and as you can see the course was covered in frost.  The course was in good condition nevertheless and we skated round (literally!) in about 2 hours flat.  The scoring was very good by the boys Craig managed to stroke it round in 67 (-3) with an eagle at the last hole.  Stu managed an 81 and enjoyed the hard ground as his drives were hitting two hundred!!! – It should be noted that we played from the medal tees which made it all the better.  Highlights of the match seen Stu make birdie at 7 the par 5 and generally just hitting the ball a lot more consistent – putting was as good as ever.  Craig managed to birdie 7 also but also drove 9 for two putt birdie and drove 14 for twp putt birdie a good putt for par at 17 saw Craig one under playing the last then two great woods to the 18th green to ten feet and a putt for -3.

The signature hole gets awarded to the 8th it has to be the best hole on the course a challenging drive to a well laid out fairway and then a long shot up to the elevated green.  Most golfers would say the first as it’s a great par 3 but we have gone for the 8th.  For those who have not played the course don’t be fooled by the picture of the sign at the front on the clubhouse.  Craig had an outing last year and it was great value for money, the food was good, the course in excellent condition always good greens and the staff are very friendly.
