Charleton golf course is a par 72 (6,446) yard parkland course situated in Colinsburgh in Fife. It is regarded as one of the finest parkland courses in fife and we agree with such praise it was a lovely courses and not quite what we were expecting. The course was well laid out and had a good mix of tough and not so tough holes. A gentle opening few holes with a couple of short par 4’s a very short par 5 and a short par 3 allow you to score however the tough par 4 3rd and 6th are not so easy to negotiate. Whilst Craig bogeyed the 1st and the 3rd he did manage to birdie the 2nd and the 9th to turn in par. Stu got off to a weak start however came into the game with three fours in the last five holes to turn in 44. Not bad given lack of golf recently. The back half is somewhat longer (almost 500 yards!). The 10th is a reasonably long par 4 at 400 yards and anything left is dead then this is followed by two fairly easy par 4’s however a long par 5 (562 yards) and a par 4 measuring 480 yards are the tough holes in the back half with a fairly smooth finish with three short par 4’s in the last four holes. Craig managed to card 8 pars and one birdie with the birdie coming at the 16th. Stu had a reasonably solid back nine however nothing fell for him and a 7 at the long par 5 saw Stu card 47 in the back half to card a 91 less 20 and played to handicap. The course was lovely and we had a really good day for it. We had originally tried to play Montrose however this was under water due to the rain fall the night before we then tried Monifieth (flooded), Panmure (flooded), Carnoustie (closed), Arbroath (winter greens), Scotscraig (flooded) and then Chareleton which was surprisingly open. It was very wet under foot however very enjoyable. The course is quite hilly however is well worth having an outing at although would recommend only one round, unless of course you hire a buggy. |
