   Craigie Hill Golf Course
Craigie Hill Craigie Hill

Craigie Hill is based in Cherry Bank in Perth and is a Par 66 (5386 yard) golf course.  Stu, Alan and I played this unbelievably hilly golf course on the 10th August 2010.  As we could guess Craigie Hill merely by its name made us think we were going to spend the day traversing the hills……and we were not disappointed.  This had to be the hilliest golf course we have ever played and probably ever will but boy was it enjoyable.  Although not fans of blind tee shots the quality of the greens and the amount of thought and ingenuity that must have went into building 18 holes over a small acreage of land kept our interest.

The course opens with a gentle 377 yards hole (so we thought) however after hitting an iron off the tee to the top of the hill with a blind shot left over a huge gulley to a plateau green we knew this course would be a challenge needless to say we all started with a bogey 5.  Another lot of bogeys ensued on the next and then we walked past the clubhouse to play a short par 3 of 148 yards straight up hill (it was a killer on the calves)…and yet another bogey ensued both 3 over par through 3 and the future wasn’t bright.  Craig however managed to card seven pars on the bounce to turn in 37 whilst Stu put on yet another solid short game display to finish with 7 straight bogeys to turn in 44.  The highlight of the first nine had to be Stu sliding down the 6th fairway on his ass as he decided to try and walk down the steepest part of the slope…silly Stupot!

So we hit the turn for another set of hills up and down up and down and blind shots everywhere (13 in all Alan counted off the tee)!  Craig played a good back nine although making a bad bogey at the 11th managed to card 5 par 3’s although 4 of them were at par 3’s but a birdie at the last (the one and only of his round) saw a back nine of 32 (level) to shoot a 69.  Stu kept up his bogey run however a couple of doubles crept in at the long ar 3’s however a very good approach to the 18th was rewarded with his first par (dongo) of the day and a score of 86 which meant Stu played to his handicap.

Overall a fun course you certainly couldn’t use it for a days outing as two rounds would kill you however if you haven’t played this course you have to play it to believe it.  If your not a fan of the hills just play it for the views and also because of the greens they are simply superb.
