   Aigas Golf Course
Aigas Aigas

We arrive at Aigas as the last course of our Highlands and Islands trips and is the 11th course in 5 days.  Our trip as been a gem and we decided to finish off our tour with a hidden gem and the course did not let us down.

Aigas is a pay as you play course near Beauly and the course sits in a valley between a forest and the River Beauly.  The course opened in 1993 and is extremely well maintained and is a challenging Par 33.  The course opens with a par 5 dogleg round the forest looking over the course is a cracking golf hole. We all hit good solid tee shots and off we go.  The 2nd is a lovely par 3 downhill over a small wall.  Alan finds the green (no it was not a 90 degree dog leg right he hit it straight this time! Stu finds the path and has to bring in rule 2.4(b) for a drop and Craig stiffs a wedge and cans for a 2!

As we cross the road to the bottom half of the course we are in for a treat  a short par 3 takes us down to the river the green being defended by a sloping green then onto the signature hole 6th named “Gorge” the River Beauly runs along the dog leg right and to take on the green you have to hit a long fade.  The hole measures 323 yards but as the crow flies probably about 280-290 yards.  Craig has a go and hits it pin high off the green however fails to make birdie and settles with a par.  Stu also manages to make a solid par 4. Craig then followed up with a3 at the par 3 up the hill and then a birdie at 8th got him back to level par.  Stu continued his run of fours from the 5th all the way to the 9th to shoot 41.  Craig managed to carve his 3 wood at the last and was bang on-line for Alan’s car until it hit the roof of the clubhouse.  Alan although a bit shaken managed to quietly plays the 9th and cards a par.  Upon reaching the car park he lightened up a bit when he seen there was no damage.  Personally I was gutted as another good Pro V was lost!!!

Our tour of the Highlands and Islands come to a close so we enter the clubhouse for some toasties and refreshments before heading the long road down to Edinburgh.  A very enjoyable trip comes to an end however looking forward to July when we hit Orkney.
