Ullapool Golf Course |
|
Ullapool golf course was course number 9 of our travels round the Western Isles and our first back on mainland since Dalmally and Taynuilt the previous Sunday (seemed such a long time ago since we played these!). We never knew what to expect as Alan had last played this course on a miserable day and from his chat it did not seem like a great course. How wrong we were this course was superb. A nine hole course with 18 tees and each tee provides a different challenge it was simply a joy to play. The weather was perfect and we had the course to ourselves which was a common theme of the holiday. The course is split into two nines with yellow tees for the back half and white tees for the first half. Alan is still convinced the white tees are medal but they are clearly not it’s simply the way the course is set up. An 18 hole course measuring 5299 yards and far from easy. Some of the holes were tighter than a dead heat for example the third hole is something I have never experienced but took great pride in finding the fairway both times having had to hit a big fade of Loch Broom onto the fairway and both time managing to miss the green from 50 yards!! Stu had another fantastic round of golf scoring 84 that included numerous pars especially par 3’s the most bizarre one coming at the 13th where Stu blocked his tee shot right and although could not see the pin manage to hit his second over the gorse with a fade to inches from the hole a truly superb shot. The highlight of my round was pitching in for eagle at the 17th which allowed me to card a scratch 73 (+3). There are too many holes that are good to pick a signature hole and we settled on the 2nd and 3rd hole as being joint signature holes however the Par 5 sticks in our mind (8th and 17th) as this was a superbly designed golf hole. We do have footage of this course and hopefully we can get this onto You Tube although when we were filming Alan it tended to be the right side of the course. :-) |
