   Westray Golf Course
Westray Westray

Stu, Alan and I played Westray our last course of the day on the Wednesday.  After our travels for the day consisting of a drive to Kirkwall airport, flight to North Ronaldsay then a lift in a van to the course, a walk back to the airfield, flight to Papay, 2 mile walk to the course, a ferry to Westray and than a bus to the hotel we were knackered!  We stayed in the Pierowall Hotel in Westray which was an excellent hotel with superb food (Stu and Alan particularly enjoyed the Cullen Skink!)  After a two course meal and a couple of pints we had charged whatever batteries we had left and made for the course – typically it had to be up hill about a mile away!

We arrived at Westray around seven and were pleased to see that this was set up well and cared for that made it easy to go round. A relatively small course a Par 29 consisting of two par 4’s and seven par 3’s still proved to be challenging.  We all managed to play well and despite three bogeys by Craig an excellent eagle 2 at the last got him round in a one over 30.  Stu playing solid managed not to make a dongo however carded a 41 and Alan a 37.  Westray was a lovely wee 9 hole course and had superb views over the beach at the bottom end f the course behind the 3rd and to the left of the 4th.  The best hole is hard to call although the 4th and the 7th were very good par 3’s and the hardest par 3 had to be the 6th.

Well all our efforts today deserve a pint and thankfully the journey back to the Pierowall Hotel is all downhill.
