Dunecht House Golf Course |
|
Dunecht House golf course is located in the village of Skene on the outskirts of Aberdeen and is home to a lovely nine hole parkland course. The course was founded in 1925 and is a good test of golf and measures off the white tees 3097 yards or if played twice is 6194 yards. In order to play this hidden gem of a course Alan through his wife’s contacts were able to find members to take us on to the course as it is strictly by invitation by a member only. Stu and I would like to say thank you for your time guys and wasn’t it a bonus we only played nine holes as the heavens opened just as we left the estate. Dunecht was superb, a course well maintained and in very good condition. The fairways were well designed and of fair size however you dare not miss a fairway as it is up to your knees at least. Our last course of the trip and Stu and I were struggling a bit (nothing to do with the drink honest!!!) – We did both start well knocking up two good tee shots off the first however it went downhill form there with both of us carding a 7 at the short par 4 (2nd) – don’t go in the rough! – The 3rd was a long par 5 which dog-legged to the left to the bottom left of the course. An inviting tee shot to the corner then decision time do you go for lay up or take on the burn and then a lovely back drop as you hit your approach to the green. The fourth is another good hole where you play along the bottom of the course and again you need to use your head and manage your way to the green. Craig laid up with a four iron then wedged to the green and Stu likewise laid up short of the burn and played to the green yet both walked off with 5’s. The 5th and 6th followed suit with an iron for safety to find the fairway to allow you an approach into the green. I’m glad we had two members with us to talk us through were to go and not too as it could have been an expensive day surrendering Pro V’s to the course. The 7th was the signature hole par 3 which measured 152 yards however was very tight as bunkers surrounded the left and the back of the green and trees immediately to the right of the green (Stu found the trees!). The 8th was a good hole also measuring 422 yards and had a large tree in the middle of the fairway it proved to be tough and deserve to be stroke index 1 on the card. The 9th to finish the round was another lovely short par 4 requiring position off the tee and a tough approach to a horrendously sloped green (don’t miss left said the local – so we both did!) however we both managed to card a four. Although we never scored very well we did thoroughly enjoy the course and even more so the guys company so thanks again for your hospitality Dunecht. |
