   Carrick Knowe Golf Course
Carrick Knowe Carrick Knowe

Carrick Knowe golf course is a 6133 yard par 70 situated near Edinburgh Zoo and Murrayfield stadium. Carrick Knowe was founded in 1905 and was formerly known as Saughton Golf Club. It was formally incorporated as Carrick Knowe Golf Club in 1929.

Carrick Knowe belongs to Edinburgh Council and is managed through Edinburgh Leisure it is a well kept and is one of the flattest courses in Edinburgh.  Having never played Carrick Knowe before we had heard mixed reports however when we played here we found it very enjoyable and a well laid out course with a good mix of holes.  We played off the yellow tees and therefore only played the course at 5664 yards some 500 yards shorter than the medal tees.

Both of us opened up with bogeys after good tee shots however two poor approaches led to a bogey each.  Craig then went on a par run straight to the ninth to turn in 36.  A couple of ten foot putts at the 3rd, 4th and 9th kept the score going.  Stu doubled the 2nd however went on to par the 3rd, 5th and 8th to turn in 42.  The back half saw Craig make another par at 10 and 11 however a three putt at 12 took him to two over. This was promptly followed by a good par at 13 then a birdie at 14 the short par 5.  A blocked drive onto the 12th saw a sweetly struck 4 iron over the trees to fifteen feet unfortunately the putt was missed.  Craig then followed up with another birdie hitting a 9 iron to 5 feet and holed the putt (back to level) three pars followed with Craig missing two short putts at the 17th and 18th to score 70 scratch.  Stu bettered his score of the front nine by one to come back in 41.  Three pars and six bogeys saw a solid round for Stu with the best par being the 18th.  A poor drive up the left Stu having to hack out of the rough to 100 yards short of the fairway.  His approach was short of the green by 10 yards and then from there Stu managed to can his putt from off the green to card a 83 scratch.

Signature hole for us was the par 3rd we thought it was a nice looking hole with a nice backdrop to the hole.  As a course we thought it was a good challenge and would certainly play this course again.
