Newton St Boswells Golf Course |
|
Set on the south bank of the River Tweed sits St Boswells 9 hole Golf Course. The course is relatively flat and not too long however is well protected with its tight fairways, small greens and of course the River Tweed. Not an easy course to find though! We are on a Borders golf course excursion today and this is the 2nd course on our list. We pitch up just behind a couple of players who very kindly show us around and let us play through. The first hole is not very inspiring and we thought what are we playing here then you have a spectacular par 3 down hill that in our view is the signature hole a short 163 yard hole with a lovely back drop of the Tweed. Stu managed to nail his 5 wood only to find his ball up a tree (see pictures in our other photographs section. Under Stu’s rules unplayable lie equal free drop which of course he chips stiff and makes par. The 3rd hole runs along the Tweed with the 4th coming back on itself followed by a long par 4 back down to the Tweed. The 6th and 7th run parallel with each other and I can see a lot of problems of people getting hit by stray tee shots. Luckily the boys had not caught up with us otherwise Stu would have been all over them like a rash. The 8th was a reasonable par 4 and the 9th a nice short par 4 that you can drive although a tight green and fairway protects this hole. All in all a good game Stu won 1up and managed 3 dongos to Craig’s 1. We would recommend this golf course to golfers on holiday on the Borders as it is very picturesque and tranquil. |
