   Winterfield Golf Course
Winterfield Winterfield

Winterfield is situated right on the East Coast of Scotland at Dunbar with stunning views.  Winterfield is a Council course and is very well looked after.  Stu and I used to be members the year before joining only for the winter to play golf on greens all throughout the winter at £95 for 6 months a total bargain.

Of all the days we pick the coldest its freezing and then you have the daunting first hole  (Probably the hardest par 3 in golf).  We promptly dropped shots at the first.  In summary the course is not everyones cup of tea however we thoroughly enjoy playing it.  The first two are really good and then it does get a bit up and down until you hit the long par 4 (7th) then its par 3 central but they are far from easy.  8 through to 11 see yardages of 250, 236, 212 then a gentler par 3 at 197! – a short couple of par 4’s that follow however the greens are not the easiest to get the ball close (especially the 13th).  The 14th is the signature hole however you can never forget the first.  The 14th is known as “The Point” and you are right on the coast.  Over club (Firth of Forth), hook (firth of forth) and fade/slice big bunkers!  The if its not already beenhard enough you have another 234 yard par 3with (yes you’ve guessed it!) the firth of forth to your left! – The last three are opportunities to rescue your score with 17 (par 5) a good birdie chance and 18 however you do have to be on your game.

This course is a par 65 (SSS 65) and you need to make your score on the front nine and hope to god you bring your short game for the back half cause most pars will be up and downs.  I was fortunate enough to be playing very well and with five birdies still only shot one over.  Stu played very well and managed an 83 which I thik was a personal record round this course.  Highlights include a two at the 9th and birdies at 17/18 with lipping out at the last for an eagle after hitting a 3 wood to 6 feet.  Stu’s highlights are his lie in the 3rd bunker (see gallery) and of course his two at the 11th.

In summary, fantastic golf course most residents down in Dunbar join both courses The Championship course and Winterfield and you can see why it is a gem and they are lucky to have these courses on their doorstep.  This course is highly recommended.
