   Ballochmyle Golf Course
Ballochmyle Ballochmyle

Ballochmyle is an inland Golf Course measuring around 6000 yards (Par 70).  It is a rather hilly golf course but is very well designed and has a good mix of holes.  The course starts with a tight drive down hill (352 yard par 4) so anything right is dead but you can play down the 10th fairway for safety. (Stu went OB and ended up with a 6!!)

The first 9 is the longest and the harder of the two as the ball does not get much run.  The greens are true though and are receptive which led to Craig carding a 2 over par 37 for the first nine.  Stu found it rather tough and had seven 5’s, on e 4 and two 6’s mainly due to the length the course was playing due to the soft ground.  The back half saw Stu come alive as he went on a magical run 4, 5, 4, 4, 4.  The end result was a back half of 42 and a gross total of 88 less 20 that saw him make his handicap.  Craig had a solid back half too as he came back in on over par making his first birdie of the match on the par 5 18th reaching with Drive, 4 iron.  The back half although shorter was still tricky and the signature hole for us was the 11th.   The hole required a good drive from Stu through a tight entrance to the fairway over a burn.  Craig had the option of cutting off the dogleg which he took to shorten the hole but nonetheless a daunting task that was rewarded with a Par.

Ballochmyle is a course you could easily say it doesn’t sound that good however you would be wrong it was a lovely course and a course we would recommend for visiting parties and of course anyone looking to play a different course from the usual courses just 10 miles or so away such as the Championship courses of Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick.
