   Muirkirk Golf Course
Muirkirk Muirkirk

Muirkirk is a 9 hole golf course measuring 2525 yards (Par 34).  Muirkirk is a moorland course and can be found near the Kames race track.  Muirkirk was established in 1991 so is a relatively young course however we were both impressed with the quality of the greens and the layout of the course.  The only problem we had was it was very overcast so never got to enjoy the views.  The course starts off with a dog leg right and is very tight with a large tree right in front of you.  It is very easy to carry the field to the right of you so worthwhile taking your drive over that.  You walk back up to play a lovely par 3 over a burn before playing two par 4’s out to the far part of the course.  A long par 4 takes you up the edge of the course and then a similar length brings you back down again.  You then play a nice driveable par 4 through the middle of the course lined with trees and then another par 4 a little bit shorter and driveable also.  You then walk through back to the 2nd tee area and play a shortish par 3 to finish into a very tight green (don’t go big or right!).

The course was a bit soft as expected and Stu struggled through the middle of the round however a good par at the first and the ninth saw Stu score an admirable 43.  Craig managed to card seven straight pars before making birdie at the 8th and then parring nine for a 33 (-1).

A nice little course however, it is well out of the way so not a course you would stumble on but as ever if you are looking for a trip we certainly think the four course trip that we built into our day away of Leadhills, Sanquhar, New Cumnock and Muirkirk would be enjoyable by any golfer.
