Portpatrick is situated in the South West of Scotland fifteen minutes from Stranraer we find ourselves at our second/third destination of the day to play the two courses here. The Dunskey is the 18 hole course and is simply superb. It has a good range of holes and some awesome views especially down at the 13th/14th that takes you right down to the cliffs (see picture above). Due to the outing we were allowed to tee off at the 10th so we had a free run at the course. The first hole meant we had to tee off over gorse to a fairway we could not see however managed to make par/bogey respectively. The back nine was relatively short playing just under 2,700 yards and provided numerous chances for birdie/par. The signature hole is the 13th a par 4 of 300 yards down hill looking over the cliffs. Shot of the day (for Craig) saw his drive make the green and followed up with the birdie. He followed this up with two further birdies at 17 and 18 to go out in two under. Stu plodded along making 5’s and 4’s and turned with a respectable 43. The front nine (our back nine) opened with a tough three holes into wind. Certainly the tougher of the two nines measuring a good 300 yard longer. Craig managed to cling onto a one over 36 bogeying the first and then parring the remaining holes. Stu actually cam back in 42 one better than the shorter half and recorded a fantastic 2 at the 7th. Measuring 160 yards Stu put his 160 yard swing on his five wood and drifted it in to five feet and coolly holed his putt to join today’s two’s club. Portpatrick was a lovely set up and thanks goes to Tom Buchanan for arranging this game with Robin the starter who also gets a mention for his generosity in giving us a concession for both of these courses. We thoroughly enjoyed them and highly recommend that you visit this part of the world for a game of golf. |
